Flash Fearsday

Flash Fearsday is a microfiction challenge: Write a horror story in exactly 140 characters. It was started at Porky's Expanse!; however, Porky was unable to continue hosting it, at which point it moved here. What will you create for the challenge?

  1. You're doing well to keep to the schedule - this is admirable punctuality.

Mine for the week is here.

And to the lurkers I say go for it - scare us good and proper.

  2. I forgot how I enjoyed these...

Scouts confirm their camp is found. Pillage! Burn! No victims do we see, until returning to our unguarded people: now losses in our victory.

  3. Here's mine. It's based on my experiences with Arwan, a character in Diablo II, at a particular waypoint in Kurast. There was always a horde of these little things just beyond it...

    ------------------------------------------------

He shook himself, disoriented by the waypoint. Looking back, he saw that Allani was jittery, for some reason. Then he heard the creatures...

  4. I actually wrote one and was about to post it here - then I realised I had done it in 140 words instead of characters...

    Yes, I'm stupid!

  5. "Murderer !"
    "Wasn't me."
    "All that blood!"
    "I'll never admit it."
    "You think they care!"
    "I'm sorry."
    "Oh, Poor man"
Alone in the room, he sobbed.

  6. C'nor: alright!

The monster who hunts when you blink
    stares back –
    if I don’t attack,
    it won’t attack.
    And in this equilibrium we sit and wait to the beat of a hum;
the distress signal that echoes position
    location
resignation, all to which I succumb.
A monotonous reminder to the rest of the crew –
orbiting above us, like tiniest doves –
    to avoid and to ignore
to go back to Earth before…

    My eyes are sore.
I remember the embrace of my eyelids,
a hug of soothing water I so long for!
Like rusty cogs, I turn my gaze
(how long now? Minutes, hours, days?)
    slightly to the left;
    a gun, within my reach!
But with all hope and humanity in me bereft,
should I use the rays for my own release?
The monster who hunts when you blink –
    grins, as I think.

  7. Wow! These are great, and the participation is fantastic this week. Onwards and upwards! Or for the doom and gloom of Flash Fearsday, maybe backwards and downwards...
