Flash Fearsday

It's time for Flash Fearsday again, keeping the slight change in rules: a horror story in 140 characters or less, so you can Tweet your work to all your friends (or, if it is particularly scary, to all your enemies!). If you want to do something a little longer, you can follow Jensen's example and use 140 words instead. Flash Fearsday was started at Porky's Expanse!; however, Porky was unable to continue hosting it, at which point it moved here. What will you create for the challenge?

  1. Here's my attempt at 139 characters:

    I’m scared, I told him.

Don’t be, he answered. I’ve known you your entire life. Here, take my hand, he said and reached out from the mirror.

  2. That's creepy and awesome.

Mine, coming in at 65 words:

    Bong... Bong... Bong...

The bell rang out. In the gathering gloom, the ritual began.

Sanguinem sanguis vocat, vocat spiritum, spiritum.

Per sanguinem vinciantur hoc tendebat cognatione tua.

Sino spiritus vester ut maiorum quaerenda, quod hic habuit.

Praesent vitae vita, mors tenet mors.

Vita estis et vos a tenet viam.

    Mortem times, cum bene regit.

Vita et mors Release te, Tintinnabulum autem adhaeret Vestibulum fidelium defunctorum.*

*"Blood calls blood, spirit calls spirit.

By your blood be bound to this, tended by your kin.

Allow your spirit to seek that of your ancestors, held here by it.

Life keeps life, death keeps death.

Life you have, and it holds you from your path.

Death you fear, though it guides you well.

Release life and let death keep you, joined to the Bell of Lost Souls.

(It was the best I could come up with quickly).

  3. Both are creepy and work very well for me, the first for the shock of the reveal, the second the slow build, all the more impressive for being put together quickly.

Mine is here, part of the struggling to make sense of events.

  4. By the way, that 140 words poem I wrote a while ago ("The monster who hunts when you blink") turned into a bigger project: The Dove
(yes, all poems in the story are 140 words too!)
